youngBLOOD gets a facelift

Well I thought it was about time for a new image and my very own domain — www.colindaniels.co.za. As you can see, I didn’t spend all my vacation time relaxing on the beach. I’d be very interested to hear what all of you think about my new “Metrosexual-Web 2.0” design so please feel free to leave your comments and suggestions below (as long as you don’t say anything about the pink!!!).

Basically, my new blog runs the latest version of Word Press (2.1) and I built this template and styled it mostly from scratch. In the process I learnt a lot about the underbelly of WP, which should come in very handy for my new job at the Sunday Times which I start next week. Oh — and did I mention I had lots of fun doing it?

The new youngBLOOD sports a few bells ‘n whistles and I’m hoping to add more social networking features and improve the style sheet in the coming weeks. Right now it’s a work in progress and I hope to find the time to work on it some more, but I’m not too sure that my new boss Ray Hartley will oblige.

This will be my last day at the New Media Lab and I’ve spent most of my time ensuring that all my critical data is backed-up off the J-Schools server and laptop before it gets nuked.

I look forward to starting my new life in Jo’burg and entering the arms race that Vincent Maher has proclaimed!

Loving the new look Colin. It’s great and I LOVE the pink vibe, strangely it doesnt strike me as metro due to the use of the black background!! Look forward to seeing what goes on amongst the jeeks in the online platform of South Africa!! See you tomorrow night.

It is quite a change from the old-look and definitely Web2.0-ish. I look forward to reading your exploits at your new job.

Congrats Colin, and good to see you have your own domain now! I generally like the new look, my only complaint would be the pink – it’s too metro…. OK, OK, not really. It’s actually a bit difficult to read the pink links on the black background. If my laptop screen is a fraction off centre, I really battle. It’s clearer on the grey background below.

    Now, green, that’s the colour…

Thanks Nic & Michael. It’s good to hear that at least 2 people like the redesign ;) For what it’s worth I also think the pink works well on the black background…

Ian – I’m trully sorry to hear about your faulty laptop screen. I had the same problem once when I dropped my laptop on the floor – or did I hit it on my head… Have you thought about getting an Apple? BTW you must let me know when you are down in Jo’burg!

Thanks, I order apples every week. Pink Lady is my favourite kind. Nice and juicy, good for keeping the doctor away, but not much good for anything else.

Will bring my optometrist bill next time I’m in Jhb :)
