Gregor and I should’ve been on our way to Dubrovnic, Croatia right now to attend the 2007 iCommons iSummit taking place from 15-17 June.
The iSummit unfortunately clashed with The Times launch so we had to make a sad cancellation with aspirations of making it next year instead. I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s iSummit which took place in Rio de Janeiro and will be closely following the proceedings in Dubrovnic and wish everyone involved the best of luck.
In the meantime my paper-littered cubicle and fluorescent lights will have to pass as a sunny Mediterranean fishing village….
Under the stress and strain of thetimes.co.za launch (which I will be dedicating an entire post to a little later) and WAN, which many colleagues and journalists are currently attending, news of Manu Padayachee’s death seems to have slipped by relatively unnoticed. Padayachee, a veteran journalist and media celebrity recognised by many South Africans for his stints on M-Net and Radio 702, passed away in the early hours of this morning after receiving treatment for an upper respiratory tract infection. You can read the full story here on reporter.co.za.
While I didn’t know him personally, I grew up watching Manu on TV and it’s always sad when a fellow colleague (who apparently worked in the same building) dies so suddenly. My condolences go out to his friends and family and I know he will be missed.
